A Group of over 40 members and friends of the Old Dundalk Society participated in a wonderfully successful Summer Outing to Russborough House in County Wicklow, Glasnevin Cemetery, and the Church Of Ireland Collon Co. Louth. The weather stayed fine except for an odd stray shower in the afternoon which didn’t dampen the spirits of  the touring group. We were treated to the delight of seeing the famous ‘Murillo’ paintings (The Prodigal Son Returns) in Russborough House, with excellent ‘guides’ who  introduced us to to the beautiful and lavish interiors of the ‘House’.  At Glasnevin Cemetery were were treated to a wonderfully presented History Tour by our guide Shane, who was truly a master of his subject matter. Our final stop on our tour was to the very beautiful Church of Ireland in Collon where we were met by Canon Moore, having  outlined the history of the building, we were then treated to a musical recital on a historic Telford Organ which was installed in 1894 by John Abraham. We then retired to the Valley Inn  Mullary Dunleer Co. Louth for a sumptuous 4 course dinner. The tired, but happy travelling group returned to Dundalk at 9.00pm after a wonderful day immersed in heritage sites.
