A large crowd attend a lecture recalling the tragic loss of James Woods and John Lamb, Dundalk Harbour Pilots, who lost their lives in Dundalk Bay on 10th February 1936 while engaged in lighting lamps that were used to guide shipping into the port of Dundalk. James and John were residents of Quay Street, Dundalk and on their deaths, Pilots Woods and Lamb left 2 widows, and 15 young children behind
The Lecture was presented by Frank O’Callaghan, a member of the Old Dundalk Society, with presentations from Barry McCourt, a Grandson of John Lamb, Madeleine Carroll, a Granddaughter of James Woods, Sarah Murphy, a Great Granddaughter of James Woods, and former Harbour Coxswain and local Maritime Historian Charlie McCarthy. The lecture was an emotional experience for family members and for the large attendance who listed in silence as the lecture recalled the tragic events of those brave men, Pilots Woods and Lamb who drowned in performing their duties. The lecture which was recorded for You Tube transmission by local radio station Dundalk FM and will be available on the Old Dundalk Society Website www.olddundalksociety.ie in the near future.
