


The Heritage walk which commenced at the Town Square. Local residents of Park Street and Anne Street Dundalk were bemused to see a large gathering of of over a hundred individuals walking through the western part of the town toward the Garda Barracks on Wednesday night last the 20th of August 2005. The reason behind the gathering was the Old Dundalk Society Heritage Week event entitled ‘Law and Order in Dundalk from the 1800s to the foundation of the state in 1922’. Michael Dowdall, local historian provided the commentary on the night, visiting the site of the old RIC barracks in Anne Street , Garda Barracks, and the Old Town Gaol where we finished the heritage tour with a talk on the Gaol and followed by a welcome cup of tea and biscuits to finish off what was a very enjoyable evening .
