‘Getting the Light’ a lecture presented by Tony Rice delighted the ‘full house’ audience at the Louth County Museum Dundalk on Wednesday 8th October 2025. Tony brought a wealth of personal and professional experience to the topic. The lecture traced the journey from the early days of electric power in the 1870s to the introduction of a national electricity system under the ESB (Electricity Supply Board) . Tony also explored the story of the electrification of the town of Dundalk and the ‘Rural Electrification Scheme’, a major turning point that brought light and modern convenience to homes and farms across Ireland. Tony engaged the audience after the lecture in a ‘Question and Answer Session’ and answered the many queries presented by an enthusiastic audience. Another great night of history presentation hosted by the Old Dundalk Society.
