The Old Dundalk Society in conjunction with The County Louth Archaeological and Historical Society is delighted to announce the second of its Spring lectures of the 2025 season. The lecture entitled St Oliver Plunkett: His Life and Times in the Dundalk Area. The Lecture will take place in the Louth County Museum Jocelyn Street Dundalk A91 EFY9 on Thursday 10thth April 2025, commencing at 8.00pm sharp. The lecture will be presented by Tommy Burns who lives in the Parish of St. Peter’s in Drogheda has a long involvement with the St Oliver Plunkett for Peace and Reconciliation Committee since 1997. The group has welcomed many pilgrims and visitors to St Peter’s over the years including John and Pat Hume in 2001. Tommy has compiled St. Oliver Plunkett Journey to Sainthood (most recent edition in 2019). Tommy has spoken about St Oliver in many locations both at home and abroad. He will talk about St Oliver’s life in the Dundalk area. St Oliver lived at Ballybarrack for a substantial period in the 1670s and he ordained many priests in the area including Castletown and Dundalk itself. In 1679 he was arrested and spent some time in jail in Dundalk and was not found guilty of the charges against him at Dundalk. Patrons are advised to come early, as there is limited capacity available at the lecture venue. Voluntary contribution at the door. Refreshments served after Lecture.
